Both heat, both plug in, both cost between 45 and 90 €. And yet you do not buy them for the same thing: the mattress topper brings the bed up to temperature before you get in, the blanket warms you while you are under it, wherever you are.
It all comes down to where you put it
The mattress topper goes under the fitted sheet
It stays in the bed, between the mattress and the sheet. You switch it on twenty minutes before going up to bed, and you slide into a bed that is already warm. The heat rises from underneath: it does not have to get through the duvet. That is why it uses little power — 60 W per side — and still heats the bed better than a blanket laid on top.
Two sizes: 80 × 150 cm, single, 60 W, and 140 × 160 cm, double, with two separate controls — one per side, each person sets their own. Both are machine washable at 30 °C.
The blanket goes over you
It does not stay in the bed. It moves from the sofa to the armchair, from the armchair to the bed, and it heats the person underneath rather than the room. The heated blanket 130 × 180 cm goes up to 160 W, offers 9 temperature levels and a timer adjustable from 20 to 180 minutes. It covers one adult lying down.
Three questions that settle it
- When are you cold? When you get into bed → mattress topper. In the evening, on the sofa, two hours before going to bed → blanket.
- Do you sleep with someone? If one of you is cold and the other is not, it is the double model with two controls that settles the argument, not the blanket — a blanket has only one setting.
- Does it need to move? A mattress topper is installed once for the winter. A blanket moves every evening.

If you would rather not plug anything in
Three items do part of the job with no electricity at the moment you use them:
- The sleeved blanket (32,90 €) keeps your arms free to read or hold a cup. Nothing to plug in, nothing to keep an eye on.
- The microwavable slippers (19,90 €) heat in 90 seconds and hold the heat for about an hour. You do not warm up while your feet are cold.
- The rechargeable electric hot water bottle (34,90 €) charges for eight minutes from the mains, then is used unplugged for several hours.
And if the cold is in one spot rather than all over: the heated mat goes under the desk (50 W), the heated neck and back cushion heats one area only.
Five rules before you plug in
- Do not fold or tuck in a heated textile while it is running: the wires do not like tight creases.
- Remove the control unit before any machine wash, and check that it is properly detached.
- Use the timer rather than relying on yourself to switch it off. That is exactly what it is for.
- Do not place a heating appliance directly against the skin for a whole night.
- CE marking and European plug. On a heating appliance, that is the last place to save money. At the end of its life it goes to a recycling centre or a WEEE collection point, never in with household waste.
